Supermarkets pull stock after contamination scare

Supermarket chains Woolworths and Coles say they removed products from their shelves after metal objects were found in some meat and frozen goods.
Queensland Police are investigating a contamination scare across three states.
Police say metal objects up to six centimetres long were found in uncooked, pre-packaged meat and frozen products.
Detective Superintendent Gayle Hogan says the products were sold in four stores across three states.
"We would like people to become vigilant and just to identify if anyone else has found any of these products or may in the future," she said.
"There has been no harm caused to anybody and in all instances, the contaminant has been found during the cooking process prior to any ingestion."
Incidents have been reported at the Coles store at Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, Woolworths at Noosa, the Bi-Lo at Alderley in Brisbane and the Coles at Tweed Heads in New South Wales.
Coles spokesman Jim Cooper says his company moved quickly.
"Early on a decision was made to take a number of affected or potentially affected products out of stores where a contamination had been found," he said. |
