Keep in mind that Bird of Paradise plants bloom best when they are rootbound, so keep the new pot size as small as is feasible.

A vigorous, climbing fig that attaches itself to surfaces by means of aerial roots. It has crinkly, heart-shaped juvenile leaves on a tracery of fine stems which adhere closely to its support. When the plant matures it starts to produce large, leathery adult foliage on horizontal, woody branches. Mature plants also produce yellowish-green, inedible figs.

More often it’s used as a feature plant or as a striking companion hedge to a green hedge like Murraya or Box. shrub with greyish bark and dark green shiny leaves with prominent veins. The white flowers bloom in spring and summer and are highly fragrant.
Well-drained, acidic soil with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5 is ideal for gardenias.
Water can be poured over the pebbles to provide moisture and humidity without excessive water being absorbed into the soil.

DESCRIPTION – An evergreen tall shrub with small silvery green leaves on blackish stems. Quick growing with dense foliage. One of the better varieties of Pittosporum.

CULTURAL - Prefers a moist well drained soil in a sunny to partly shaded position. For best results fertilise with a long term slow release fertilizer in early Spring, and prune to shape when required. Will tolerate dry periods, light frosts and coastal conditions when established.

LANDSCAPE USE – A very effective screening plant that can be kept clipped from 2-4 metres and will not grow too wide. It is also useful for seaside gardens, shrubberies and general garden planting. A good container plant providing it doesn’t dry out.

Shear this plant back in spring with a sharp lawn mower blade.  This will encourage a flush of new growth.  Do this before the new growth emerges!  Liriope is easily propagated by division in the early spring.
