Christmas overload to blame for Bendigo breakdown

Tens of thousands of customers had difficulty making transactions yesterday after Bendigo Bank's national network of 480 ATM's went down for almost two hours. The breakdown is believed to have been caused by an overload of the bank's ATM and eftpos network. About 50,000 customers who tried to pay bills using eftpos would be reimbursed after the money left their accounts but failed to pay the bills. Customers who paid a $1.50 service fee for using another bank's ATM would also be reimbursed.
