“Private health insurance will be means tested and high-income earners who don’t take it out will be charged a higher Medicare surcharge under laws set to be passed in parliament next week.
The government is likely to have secured the three votes it needs for the measures, which will cut the rebate for people earning more than $129,000 and families who earn more than $258,000 and increase the Medicare surcharge by 1.5 per cent for those brackets if they don’t take out insurance.”
