Police appeal for information after armed robbery - Albion Park

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery in the Illawarra this morning.
About 6am (Wednesday 7 December 2011), three men, one wearing a balaclava, approached the owner of a newsagency on the Princes Highway, Albion Park.
One of the men threatened the 31-year-old male owner with a firearm and demanded cash.
The two other men removed cash from the safe and tied the owner up.
The three men then left the location and drove off in a white Toyota Prado.
During the incident, the owner was struck in the back of the head with the firearm and he was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for bruising.
Police were contacted and immediately attended the premises where they established a perimeter and conducted a search of the area with the assistance of the Dog Squad.
The Prado was located on Koona Street, Albion Park Rail; however, the men were not located.
The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.
Detectives from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command, assisted by specialist forensics officers, are investigating the incident.
Anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area about 6am or who may information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Lake Illawarra Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. |
