山区市委和山区圣歌(HILLSONG)试图禁止在这个有传统家庭价值的地区设立妓院,但未能成功。
SYDNEY'S bible belt has lost its bid to ban brothels, on the second day of the local government conference which was dominated by discussions of vice industries.
The Hills Shire Council tried to pass a motion calling on the state government to allow some councils with ''strong community and family values'' to ban the oldest profession, a move that prompted some of the most passionate debate of the conference. All councils in NSW must provide at least one zone within their local government area where brothels can be established.
Peter Dimbrowsky, a councillor from the area that is home to the Hillsong Church, said people in his area found brothels offensive and councils should be allowed to ban them.

But other councillors questioned whether there was no demand for brothels among Hills Shire residents.
''This morning I took the opportunity to peruse the Hills Shire local paper … there was half a page of ads for adult services,'' pointed out an Ashfield Greens councillor, Patrick Kelso, to cheers and laughter from some sections of the audience.
Cr Kelso said the rights of sex workers to work in safe, regulated conditions was at stake.
More than 350 mayors and councillors are in Albury this week for their annual conference, which passed motions against alcohol and gambling yesterday.
Delegates called on the state Labor and Liberal parties to reject donations from hotels, clubs and the alcohol industry. They also endorsed a move to allow councils to consider the social impact of poker machines when assessing a development application for a renovation or new business. |
