Report : Fished the usual spots opposite the creek and to the left of Mahers Landing with my mate Mick. Plenty of small flathead. The whiting hit hard. The banjo shark was a bit of a surprise. Ended up taking home 7 king george whiting between us ranging from 32cms to 40 cms.

Report : The intrepid trio spent the weekend at Venus Bay and took the boat to the Inlet. Having never fished there before it was somewhat of an eye opener. You really have to know your stuff out there. As far as fishing goes, we headed to the snags area and pulled a few small flatties, then headed out towards Maher's Landing and hooked into some good Australian Salmon. From there a lot of time was spent trying to avoid the shallows that just seem to rise up. Headed back to the snags and landed a nice Silver Trevally. Interesting place the Inlet you really hav eto know the water you fish in, demonstrated by the locals who were cleaning Big Red Snapper and half metre long Flatties at the Jetty, oh well that's fishing.

Report : Mate Derrick and I ended up bringing home 8 king george whiting and a flathead. Would have also had 2 more whiting and an Australian salmon but they escaped the holding net. Also got mullet, silver trevally the ubiquitous toadies. All released. Fun day. Except for the flies. Even had a hitchcock movie moment when we were getting chased by them as we motored to a fishing spot. Fished opposite Screw Creek in the channel near the green buoy and out near the 3rd buoy left of Maher's Landing.

Report : I went out to Mahers Landing at dawn to catch the change of the tide and it was slack at about 6:30 am. Went to work with pippies and blue bait and caught 10 King George whiting (30 cms) in pretty quick time. After the tide starting coming in it went pretty quiet on the whiting but I did catch a couple of nice flathead. I also caught a number of just size Australian salmon which I promptly threw back. Came home with a good feed of whiting fillets and flathead tails. Regards - Zac.

Report : Out to Maher's Landing again, this time with my brother Rod who is an excellent fisherman. Over the last of the outgoing and the slack tide we caught a great bag of king george whiting ranging from 35 cms to 45cms. These were the fattest whiting I had ever seen and they were excellent in beer batter. We also caught a fair number of mullet throughout the afternoon. Best baits were pippies, and we went through heaps...... but it was worth it. Cheers - Zac.

Report : I boated at Mahers Landing across the slack tide from low to high. I caught 14 king george whiting (37 - 40 cms) on pippies, a few yellow-eye mullet and later a stack of Australian salmon (21 cms) which I returned to the water. I would have kept the salmon if I hadn't already got a bag of whiting as the smaller ones make very good eating. There were a lot of other boats out but I was the only one cleaning fish at the end of the day. The best weather conditions I have encountered this season. Cheers -Zac |
