在家带孩子，英语严重退步。本来就不怎么好，现在更加糟糕了。。。
现决定，每天读十条ABC just in，并把学到的新单词或词组或俚语在此帖做笔记。
就从2009圣诞这天开始吧。

04/02/2010：
总结一下，听了一个月的英语，果真听力有进步。以前一点听不懂的radio，现在听一遍居然知道是什么意思。决定继续照办。。。
有位同学总结得好，我也决定照办：
入门： Friends
提高： Sex & the City + Will & Grace
进阶： 英剧 The Office + Coupling
升级： 英剧 Black Books + The Thick of It
专业： CSI + House
现在每天精听3篇BBC，粗听ABC news半小时，看一集无字幕的老友记。
又看到一篇文章，听写VOA，不错，我亦照办。

standby  后备。不知道可不可以理解为候补

blizzard 记住暴雪就记住了这个单词

埋伏暗算教皇。这名袭击者很unstable.

stand by 可以理解成候补，我去申请volunteer job，已经有人了，所以那个coordinator 问我 act  as a standby

听1个新闻(1分钟上限)，听清楚每个单词，甚至闭着眼睛听。
然后大声地复述出来，嗓门大的好像和人吵架那样。
不要写下来！！！
而且要和电台里的人一样节奏，语调重复出来。
重复到你可以完整的复述出这个新闻（可以有最多5个单词不知道）

这比阅读学英文厉害的多，而且有用的多。
每天这样学完后，才在有精力的情况下完成阅读

因为最有效的办法是和local呆在一起，如果没有这个条件，
上述的办法可以创造出一个类似的环境
虽然是单向的没有交流的interaction,
但等你过了一个月就知道它的利害了

claimed the life of 夺走某人的生命，比kill要生动一点。

2. Man dismembers hand in fire cracker mishap
Darwin police say a Palmerston man will be permanently disabled after a fire cracker exploded in his hand overnight.
dismembers 是割断手足, 支解, 分割的意思。应该可以理解为截肢吧。
mishap 不幸之事, 灾祸, 恶运。这个词的读音是mis-hap，不是mi-shap。
overnight 这个词我一直觉得很神秘啊，又是通宵，又是前晚，又是昨夜一整夜的意思。

3. Brits brave weather for Christmas dip
from ABC News : Just In
The traditional British Christmas: a cosy fire, turkey, mince pies and sherry. Or, for some brave souls, stripping off in the bitter winter chill and charging headlong into the sea.
Brits 原来英国人也有简称滴。。
strip off 脱光衣服泡冷水，好有勇气。
charge 有向前冲，冲锋的意思。指环王里那个谁发挥司令时就是大喊“charge”，话说当时我很激动，也跟着喊了。。。

底特律，偶今天第一次看到这个城市的英文名。。。

the line honours 是first-past-the-post trophy的同义词，
first-past-the-post:愿意是投票最高获胜，这里是比喻拿到trophy的条件不仅仅看通过时间还要综合其他的因素后，比如船的设计和完成的速度，+ + - -才能折算出最终完成时间。
所以在这个context里面，就是说因为风轻微，外界因素对船目前的完成终点时间影响不大，而且也不会影响到之前已经算好的时间。
在这样的理解上， keep the line honours record intact就是说保持当前积分状态不变。

road toll 词典里是养路费的意思，根本没有“交通事故死亡人数”的意思。
stands at 达到。

hold-up 劫持，抢劫

life of...是个词组，可翻译成....的人生。在这里就是犯罪的人生

7. Mike Hussey was dismissed for the 19th half-century by an Australian this summer on day two of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at the MCG.
从来不读体育新闻，请问此句如何翻译。。。

exceed有时有超越界限的意思，surpass之限于两者之间的相对关系，没有越界的意思

这样说吧，含义的区别很细微，主要在于stand at有expect it to grow/change的意思,所以中文我会用“保持在”。reaches没有expect to grow further的意思, 中文我会用“达到”
