We have received the Building Engineer’s scope of works, which will be submitted to the Government’s new building portal. The engineer’s documentation has been provided to two builder’s to provide quotes on. We have received the first builder’s submission and expect the second builder’s by the end of the week.
Significant works are required and I wouldn’t expect the work to be completed and to be signed off by the engineer for at least another few weeks.
The advice from the scheme’s lawyer is to proceed with the rectification of the works, as the work is urgent and unlikely that Piper will attend to it in a timely manner.
Unfortunately, with the recent change to the Design and Building Practitioners Act it means these types of works need to be designed and documented by an engineer before a builder is involved. All engineer’s are so busy at the moment that getting the issue reported and designed has taken quite some time. However, this process should ensure that the rectification works are carried out to the design and in a tradesman-like manner. That should prevent a recurrence of the issue.
