Sydney Opera House is throwing open the doors and welcomes you to explore inside.
Whether you’re a Sydney-sider or a visitor you can probably draw thefamous sails with your eyes closed… but do you know what the insidelooks like?
Come inside and discover what really goes on under the white sails.Walk in the footsteps of the famous, see behind the scenes and discoverhow the House creates over 2,500 performances and events each year.
Go on a journey of discovery into the building, winding your waythrough the grand theatres, the hub of rehearsal and dressing rooms andtechnical and production offices. Discover how sound, lighting and setsare used to create a dramatic effect and learn about the types ofthings you can see and do everyday at the House. Every nook and crannytells a story of the past 50 years: the people who have performed, thepeople who have visited and the vision of its creator, Jørn Utzon.
There’ll be action inside and outside - with street entertainers,DJ’s, Trent Parke’s photography exhibition and a big-screen on theForecourt. Plus, plenty of opportunity for a delicious lunch or apicnic by the harbour.

Behind the Scenes: Entering via Stage door you’ll godeep into the backstage areas of the House to places usually reservedfor cast & crew.  Highlights include the impressive scenery dock,backstage of the Drama Theatre, administration areas with amazing viewsof the harbour, main rehearsal room where you’ll witness ballet dancersin rehearsal, finishing in the famous ‘green room’ – the place wherethe stars hang out. Duration: 30 minutes
Opera Theatre & Concert Hall: Walking up thestairs to the intimate Utzon Room you’ll get a birds-eye-view of FortDenison, before exiting through the back door and entering the grandtheatres. Highlights include seeing stage sets up-close, roamingperformers in costume, peeking into the Orchestra Pit and listening tothe Grand Organ play in the Concert Hall. You can even have yourpicture taken on the stage next to the grand piano! Duration: 20 minutes
The Studio, Playhouse and Drama Theatre: Entering thenewly renovated Western Foyer area you will weave your way in and outof the theatres, into the audience and behind the curtains. Highlightsinclude watching circus performers rehearsing in The Studio,discovering how visual effects are achieved with lighting in thePlayhouse, and learning how sound and audio effects are created in theDrama Theatre. Duration: 10 minutes.

PRICESTHIS IS A FREE EVENTINFORMATION
Sydney Opera House will be open to the public from 10am – 4pm.
Please allow for queuing time.
No prams or strollers permitted inside the House. (Cloaking is available for these items).
Routes include approximately 200 steps. Please wear comfortable footwear.
Photos will be permitted, where indicated.
No food or drink permitted inside the House.
Accessible services available, please contact Jenny Spinak 92507175. Access Tours will run at 11am, 12.30, 2, & 3.30pm. Meetingpoint: Vehicle concourse, Ground Level.

Please note the site will be closed to vehicle access, drop off at the end of Macquarie Street only.
This event will proceed in wet weather.
Please be Sun safe, wear a hat, drink plenty of water and remember sunscreen.
We encourage you to use Public transport to attend this event.
