Protests against the detention of refugees in Brisbane are expected to go ahead despite a Supreme Court ruling banning the event.
Activists had planned to protest the detention of about 120 refugees and asylum seekers in the Kangaroo Point Motel, under the Federal Government's medevac laws.
Queensland's Supreme Court yesterday issued a ban on the event in light of COVID-19 restrictions and mounting concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
But organisers say they plan to re-locate with more than 1000 activists expected to gather at a nearby Park.
"ABF has refused any freedoms for the men inside Kangaroo Point Prison. So we are taking to the streets," Refugee Solidarity Brisbane said in a post on Facebook.
"There will be a space in Raymond Park to gather, listen to voices from the men inside and play soccer."
The protests were planned for last weekend however organisers postponed the event due to "police violence". |
