that machines are indifferent to humans and in pursuit of their own goals, the destruction of people might be just collateral damage.
这句话应该怎么翻译。
单单拿出一句不好理解,完整的段落在这里:Maybe the problem with computers too clever for us is not that they are evil or rebellious like some we've seen in sci-fi movies. What could put us in danger is that they might be too efficient. That's what philosopher Nick Bostrom from the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University believes. He says that machines are indifferent to humans and in pursuit of their own goals, the destruction of people might be just collateral damage.

还请各位能人高手不吝赐教。多谢啦:si26

Machines are indifferent to humans
Human beings would have the ability of understanding the deep emotional and moral situations, while the machines are not likely to have these.

in pursuit of their own goals
Machines are simply doing their jobs and won't take any other situations into account.

the destruction of people might be just collateral damage
Machines might cause damage to humans, if so, not because they are evils, what they do is only to finish their job off.

(They are machines with no human hearts after all. The more clever they become, the more dangerous they will be -- the perspective of the writer )
