PRIMARY ROLE PURPOSE:
PRIMARY ROLE PURPOSE:
This role is responsible for the monitoring, control and operation of Brisbane’s Water and Sewerage system. This role is responsible for the operation of a large telemetry based system including the development of methods and procedures to enable the system to operate efficiently.
Employees in this role will operate within a team of Control room operators to investigate system performance and recommend improvement solutions that will ensure the delivery of customer service standards and outcomes to achieve the Branch KPI’s.
The incumbent will be required to work 24/7 shifts.
ABOUT BRISBANE WATER & NETWORK BRANCH:
The Network Planning and Services Branch is accountable for water/wastewater quality, reliability, pressure and quantity at the point of delivery, conditional on upstream/input conditions or demands, to the capability of assets provided. It is experienced in delivering a range of products and services to the water industry including:
• Water Meter workshop;
• Mechanical and Electrical workshop;
• Water and wastewater operation and consulting advice;
• Engineering services, and
• Network services, including flow and pressure testing, smoke testing, pipeline design, installation, repair and renovation services.
The Network Planning and Services Branch is comprised of 6 units, including:
• Business Systems and Support
• Infrastructure Planning and Services
• Water Services
• Wastewater Services
• Operations
• Stakeholder Management
KEY ACTIVITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THIS ROLE:
• Maintain capability to monitor and control the water and sewerage systems
• Monitor and control the water reticulation and distribution system in order to minimise pumping costs, maintain water quality and to maintain standards of service for water pressure.
• Monitor and control the sewerage system to ensure the minimisation of pumping costs, prevent sewage overflows and maintain standards of service for sewage transport.
• Initiate/control Water Supply and Sewerage Maintenance Staff to reinstate essential services within standards.
• Initiate/control actions as required during natural or man made disasters and liaise with other emergency services.
• Monitor and prepare procedures for major water supply shutdowns to allow construction and maintenance work to be completed on schedule with minimal interruption to supply including the administration and operation of the Brisbane Water, Permit to Work system.
• Ensure that Local Authority customers are satisfied with the quantity of water delivered to them.
• Maintain and audit operational procedures and documentation and recommend solutions to improve the water & sewerage system performance & reliability.
• Maintain a backup set of plans, and maps of the water supply and sewerage trunk and reticulation systems.
• Ensure that customers and management receive effective after-hours emergency services.
• Work co-operatively in a team based environment under direction of the Service Delivery Leader Operations contributing to the achievement of the Business KPI’s.
• Undertake workplace health, safety and rehabilitation and environmental responsibilities and accountabilities to the level of the role, as outlined in the Brisbane Water Workplace Health, Safety and Rehabilitation Management System and the Environment Management System.
• Undertake dispatching duties on an as needed basis when directed, including after hours scheduling and administration of the After Hours Work Management System. Updating Work orders as required from time to time.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
• Demonstrated ability to monitor, analyse, solve problems and report on operational situations
• Well developed interpersonal, consultation, networking and negotiation skills including proficiency in written and oral communication to provide effective feedback and communication to managers, team members, internal and external customers. Demonstrate a strong customer focus
• Demonstrated ability to use specialised computer systems including the ability to modify and use standard operating parameters of software packages
• Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings and demonstrated understanding of pipe line hydraulics.
• Ability to design, review and implement work procedures
• Proven experience in continuous improvement process.
• Demonstrated ability to monitor, respond and control effectively in real time operational situations similar to a water supply and sewerage control room
• Knowledge of relevant Workplace Health and Safety, EEO, Environmental Protection and Business System policies and procedures
• Available to work 24/7 shifts as required.
Desirable:
• Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering (eg Bachelor or Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering)
• Ability to use corporate computer information systems (eg. word processing packages (Microsoft Word) and spreadsheet packages (Microsoft Excel).
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of water supply and sewerage systems |
