还有一点是，林徽因和金岳霖两人确实”同居“过，即并不是金岳霖住在梁，林的家里，而是林徽因和金岳霖两人单独住在一起，住在一所租来的别墅里。当然，这种文字上的区别对于他们三人当时亲密异常的关系已经没有什么分别的必要了。这个事情发生在1946年的2月到5月之间的几个月里，住在昆明。而这段时间梁思成主要在昆明或重庆。
这个看《梅贻琦日记》《朱自清日记》的记录就可以知道。林，梁两人自己也有这段生活的记录留下来。费慰梅的传记《Liang and Lin》里就有。
林徽因到重庆检查身体后去了昆明，和金岳霖住在一起，之后给在四川的梁思成写信，描述自己的状况和心情。之后梁思成又给费慰梅写了一封信：
里面是这样的内容。
”It is only a few days ago that the river project was finished. But still only very small boats can come up from Chungking. It will be the later part of May before a boat with cabins can come up. So Whei'trip to Kunming is the only solution to the problem... In her first letter from Kunming,she wrote of a sense 'almost religious' in realizing that a deep prayer is fulfilled.She was overwhelmed by the welcome accorded her by our old friends, and mourned that she is 'talking'all the time without anything to 'give'.
"The visits you and John paid us in Li-juang relieved the monotony of her five years in this one room to such an extent that she was able to keep up her high spirits for a long time after your departure. And again,this visit of hers to Chungking would not have been even thought of if you were not there. The good psychological effect is tremendous.
"Although the high altitude of Kunming has a certain bad effect on her breathing and pulse,she is very happy there.She is surrounded by old friends who keep her company and keep supplying her with books,more than she can read.Lao Jin is staying with her (very Bohemian indeed) and she has a very good maid.So she is in good care and I have nothing to worry."
梁思成在信里对于林和金的这种“同居”的描述是very Bohemian indeed (确实非常的放荡不羁），不过他没什么可担心的，也不介意。
