New public transport network for Point Cook area from Sunday, 28 April 2013
Date Published: Monday 25 March 2013
A new train and bus network will be introduced in the Point Cook area from Sunday 28 April, with the opening of the Williams Landing Station and five new bus routes introduced.
Williams Landing Station, located on the Werribee line, will cater for thousands of residents in the fast-growing suburbs of Point Cook, Williams Landing and Truganina.
Five new bus routes will provide more frequent and direct services to connect with trains at the new station, as well as improved late night services to get residents home.
All Werribee line trains will stop at Williams Landing, which means Point Cook residents will no longer have to travel to Hoppers Crossing, Aircraft or Laverton to access more than 800 train services a week.
Trains will stop at Williams Landing trains every 10-12 minutes during peak times, and every 20 minutes during the off-peak.
The new Williams Landing Station will operate as a Premium Station and will be staffed from first to last train.
The new station will feature:
* an island platform accessible by stairs, lifts and ramps
* a new bus terminal and a taxi rank
* a car park with 500 spaces, and drop-off zones
* a pedestrian footbridge across the Princes Freeway
* a secure Parkiteer bicycle cage for cyclists
* an air-conditioned waiting area and toilets.
In addition to the new train station, the new bus network will more than triple the number of bus trips each week for passengers, an increase from 696 to 2120, and will extend public transport for the first time to the growing areas of Point Cook South and Saltwater Coast residents, via new routes 494, 495 and 497.
Residents will benefit from more late night buses, with services running till approximately 9pm, seven days a week, and services operating until midnight on two routes on Friday and Saturday nights.
Some existing bus routes in the local area will also change with Route 446 now travelling to Williams Landing Station and Route 414 ending at Laverton Station.
Passengers should be aware that existing bus routes 413 and 416 have been replaced by routes 493, 494, 495, 496 and 497.
Timetable information will be available in the coming days. Check back here again for more information.
