Aust Govt 'making noise' about Stern Hu: China

China's official government spokesman has dismissed Australia's complaints about the case of the Rio Tinto executive Stern Hu as simply "making noise".
Spokesman Qin Gang says criticism from Australia won't influence China's handling of the case.
He's also made comments which would again suggest that the Chinese Government has already determined that Chinese-born Stern Hu, an Australian citizen who holds dual passports, is guilty.

Hu’s case was also potentially complicated because of his ethnic identity and
former nationality as Chinese, in addition to his Australian nationality. As China
does not recognise dual nationality, Australia has had difficulties in providing
consular assistance to its nationals who also have Chinese nationality,
particularly if they opted to enter the country on their Chinese passport.89
Individuals might choose to use their Chinese passport in order to gain access to
certain business advantages that would otherwise be unavailable. Another
purpose of the bilateral consular agreement was thus to clarify Australia’s rights
of diplomatic protection for dual Australian–Chinese nationals. Provided Hu
entered China on an Australian passport, he should have been entitled to consular
access and protection by Australia in accordance with the bilateral consular
agreement.
