There are some very much heated comments here:

I think this one has made the point for both country, it does not matter which education system, spend big bucks send kids to good /expensive school while not take parenting responsibility, is not going to do any good to kids.
-------
Useless comparisons. Britain is not China and vice versa. Every education system is as good or bad as the people make it. It does not operate in a vacuum, it is influenced by socio-economic and other cultural influences. In countries like China and India education has a social purpose as well apart from professional, if your child has good grades in school it influences your social position. Parenting is the major factor, here in Britain parents refuse to take responsibility and the results are obvious to see. Britain does not have an academic culture rather it is an anti-intellectual society where intelligent, bright and academically inclined people are mocked and ridiculed. A society where falling drunk in the gutter on a weekend is something to boast about not to be ashamed about. A place where thick as planks pupils are full of confidence while the bright ones hide in the shadows out of fear of bullying. Blaming the teachers, they system, the curriculum etc.. is useless.
