I Believe Kawai’s ABS plastic action parts contribute to the stability of the action regulation.…” (Larry Fine, 2001)

“Kawai uses a high grade of ABS plastic and related artificial materials in the fabrication of some of its action parts in both grand and verticals. This practice is often the subject of criticism by competing dealers. You should know that this criticism is unjustified and its object is simply to place doubt in your mind about Kawai pianos. Kawai’s plastic parts work beautifully and are very durable, and have been shown in scientific tests to be stronger than analogous wooden parts; there is nothing wrong with them.” (Larry Fine, 2001)

“I think Morton would have been particularly pleased to see Kawai’s success in developing the world’s first successful “plastic” action. Made of ABS-Carbon – a composite material made by combining carbon fiber with ABS Styran – the action parts are exceptionally stiff and mechanically tough yet very light in weight. With less reciprocating mass, these actions are very quick and easy to play. Aside from their obvious performance capabilities, these actions are also dimensionally stable and are little affected by seasonal climate variations. He would not have been at all surprised at the amount of inaccurate and gratuitous criticism leveled at this action by the sellers of competitive pianos. Whether the traditionalists among us care to acknowledge the reality of today’s world or not, these materials represent the path to the future, and the sooner we get on with it the better.” (Delwin H. Fandrich, 2006)
