Ouch, my feelings! Thanks for worrying so much about me but that's a bit too intimate mate, so back ...
I am sincerely sorry if what I wrote is deemed too intimate by you or your mates.
Polite and potentially fruitful discussion is always welcomed but it appears it wasn't me who is intimidating.
Impressed by your passion about addressing people "mate", I just googled it and it seems that not only the security staff but also the attendants were warned against using "mate"when dealing with the public or members of parliament.
it states on smh website" Secretary for the Department of Parliamentary Services Hilary Penfold said security guards were asked not to refer to visitors as mate in case they caused offence."
"secondly or thirdly", I thought the Australian Parliament represents the Australian people and make (democratic or not) decisions for the nation.
but wait, are we talking about the same country?
well, I agreed with you that these mates/technocrats are so disconnected from the public; How dare they find it offensive to be greeted in an Australian way
Thanks for sharing that wonderful website; I echo many sentiments.
just make sure you realize we are not talking about mate-ship but simply the way to address people when you forget their name. |
