The government announced on Tuesday that it would spend $55 million to begin work on extending the line from the terminus at Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill station, with services to begin within two years.
But the Kogarah MP and former minister Cherie Burton wants the system extended on a loop from Dulwich Hill to Burwood, then to Bexley North and Tempe and back into Sydney, using existing rail and transport corridors.
Her plan coincides with a proposal from the advocacy group Eco Transit, which would immediately extend the line from Dulwich Hill to Wolli Creek station, via Tempe
The report urged the fast-tracking of the north-west rail link, completion of the missing rail link between Parramatta and Epping, and the second rail harbour crossing.
