The latest Census in 2011 recorded 318 969 China-born people in Australia, an increase of 54.4 per cent from the 2006 Census.
Language
The main languages spoken at home by China-born people in Australia were Mandarin (208 242), Cantonese (71 645) and Chinese, nfd (19 266). Of the 308 378 China-born who spoke a language other than English at home, 67.1 per cent spoke English very well or well, and 32 per cent spoke English not well or not at all.

Median Income
At the time of the 2011 Census, the median individual weekly income for the China-born in Australia aged 15 years and over was $328, compared with $538 for all overseas-born and $597 for all Australia-born. The total Australian population had a median individual weekly income of $577

Employment
Among China-born people aged 15 years and over, the participation rate in the labour force was 57.1 per cent and the unemployment rate was 11 per cent. The corresponding rates in the total Australian population were 65 per cent and 5.6 per cent respectively.
Of the 154 505 China-born who were employed, 51.1 per cent were employed in either a skilled managerial, professional or trade occupation. The corresponding rate in the total Australian population was 48.4 per cent.
也就是说15岁以上中国移民有工作的比例是50.8%，全澳水平是61.4%，这个比例在各国移民中也是比较低的。

According to the 2010-11 PITMID, there were 98,525 taxpayers who were born in China*, an increase of 12% from 2009-10. The majority held Skilled visas (69%), while one-quarter held Family visas.

Of the $3.3 billion in Total income reported by Chines-born migrants in 2010-11, 92% was Employee income. Skilled stream migrants born in China* earned most of this Employee income and received $2.6 billion (78%) of the Total income reported by Chinese-born migrants in 2010-11. These Skilled Chinese migrants recorded a median Employee income of $35,161 whilst those with a Humanitarian or Provisional visa had very similar median Employee incomes, $15,600 and $15,027 respectively.
In 2010-11, Skilled migrants represented 62% of migrant taxpayers and generated 72% of total income in 2010-11. There were 542,096 migrant taxpayers with a Skilled visa, an increase of 7.7% compared with 2009-10. They reported $32.4 billion in Total income from all sources, and a median income of $47,700. Skilled offshore primary applicants reported the highest median Employee income with $61,323, a 6.5% increase on 2009-10.
如果只比较交税的技术移民，67982名中国技术移民的中位收入是$35,161，平均收入是$38,245；而全澳技术移民的中位收入是$47,700，平均收入是$59,768。
