That is true. It is a personal choice. That is why I have two kids. They have each other when we are gone. And there is no correct number of kids to have and the correct way of living life in general. What I mean is the decision to have kids should not be to please the older generation or anyone else as ultimately it is the women who goes through the pain and does the most work in most families. It also depends on affordability and what you are happy with.
Also, every time a women have a child, she will lose something health wise. My mummy is from China and she used to say that in the villages in the olden days before all the modern day supplements were available, women use to lose a tooth at every birth of a child. It is not due to dental carries, it just got wobbly and pop! out it came.
Also, asthetically, women suffers too. The more pregnancy they have the more wrinkly their tummy becomes etc. My sister has 4 kids. She is the slimmest women but her tummy is so wrinkly. Her son used to say 'Mama's tu zi hen hai pa'. As they say, it is the price of mother hood. How many men are sympathetic? Yes, beauty is only skin deep but how many women in this forum do not want to look their best?
We all know the physical process of childbirth is not a trivial matter. It is only through modern medicine that the survival rate is so high. I would be dead if not for it. I had severe bleeding(post partum haemorrhage??) and passed out during the birth as my daughter was too big for me (9lbs ~ 4Kg) and tore me. The chances of women dying were much higher say 100 years ago. Grandma use to say, a woman giving birth is like an ant crawling on the edge of the wok. You could fall into the wok or into the fire!
Another thing I heard a lot in these kind of forum is women whose husband or mother in law really wants to them to have sons. I think it is unfair to the women. A lot of women suffers emotionally because of the anxiety to produce a male. The correct attitude is to hope for a healthy baby. What ever that comes and if it is your heart's desire it is a bonus. You hear of people calling the baby in the wife's tummy 'Er Zi' before they found out the gender. That is plain stupid. And there's this family who has five daughters. The parents had a hard time when the kids were young. Some people even shake their saying Mr. so and so has no 'hou tai' (facing extinction). Now Every single one turns out to be a highly successful professional, eye-surgeon, lawyer, GP etc. They take turn to take their parents to travel round the world while their parents can still walk and enjoy travelling. That is hard to beat I reckon.
That is my 2 cents worth from me. Thanks for reading if you did. Good luck to all and Cheers. |
