3. EXCEPTIONS
An English language proficiency assessment is not required for applicants who have undertaken the full four years of required higher education study (or qualifications assessed as comparable) in English in either:
Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), the United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland.
(Note: These are the countries accepted under Australian migration policy as not requiring English language proficiency assessment.)
4. ACCEPTED ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTS
The tests which are accepted by the NSW Institute of Teachers and the required test results are as follows:
4.1 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test
An IELTS (Academic) test result with an average band score of 7.5 across all four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing, with no score below 7.0 in any of the four skill areas and a score of no less than 8.0 in speaking and listening.
This test is widely accepted as an International standard for English language proficiency assessment. Information on the test and testing locations can be found at http://www.ielts.org/.
