BYD released a statement on the Dolphin white powder issue yesterday. Rough translation:
Explanation on the air conditioning of individual Dolphin vehicles
Recently, we have received complaints from individual users, reflecting the phenomenon of white powder blowing out of dolphin vehicle air conditioners. We attach great importance to this, and carry out full investigation and research, and commission two third-party branches to carry out testing. The relevant situation is described as follows:
This phenomenon is caused by the abnormality of individual air conditioning evaporators in dolphin models. After testing, the main component of the powder is aluminum hydroxide (often used in gastric drugs), which is harmless to the body. The PM2.5 concentration in the air in the car is less than 50 ug/m3 (the air gas quality evaluation PM2.5:0-50 ug/m3 is preferred), which is far below the inhalation concentration limit of international chemical safety by 4000 ug/m'. The powder is mainly large particles and usually naturally settles at the bottom of the car. If inadvertently inhaled, it will also be adsorbed and filtered by the nasal cavity, which will not cause harm to the human body.
We apologize for the trouble and concern caused by this phenomenon to users! Please feel free to use it. If you have any concerns, you can enter the store for free testing. If this phenomenon occurs, the evaporator can be replaced free of charge and the air conditioning pipe can be cleaned to completely solve it. BYD Automobile November 18, 2022
