当你看到莫里斯、贝瑞吉克莲说公信力的时候,千万别信
给你找到新闻评论:
Maintaining that confidence is part of the reason she had to go.
In her resignation speech, Berejiklian said she had "always acted with the highest level of integrity".
Since she rose to the top job in 2017, Berejiklian has demanded that her MPs who have been put under the microscope by an integrity agency or the police were to stand aside until their names were cleared.
In 2018, Maguire resigned from the Liberal Party and moved to the crossbench after admitting to the ICAC that he sought payment over a property deal.
Meanwhile, in March, Liberal MP John Sidoti moved to the crossbench after the ICAC announced it would hold an inquiry into his property dealings.
While Berejiklian's public denunciation of both men was limited when they left the Liberal Party — when Maguire resigned she said she was "deeply disappointed" in him, although what the public didn't know at the time was that the two were dating.
It was this standard that Berejiklian had to hold herself to when the ICAC's spotlight fell on her again.
"Standing aside is not an option for me as a premier of New South Wales," Berejiklian said today.
"The people of this state need certainty as to who the leader is of the state during the challenging time for the pandemic.
"I cannot predict how long it will take the ICAC to complete this investigation, let alone deliver a report, in circumstances where I was first called to give evidence at a public hearing nearly 12 months ago."
When it comes down to it, Berejiklian realised that the office of the premier — and the person behind the desk — needs to be above reproach.
She's helped to ensure that in standing down.
