Hi There
I run a small Technical Recruitment business and unfortunately SEEK is a bit of a monster, in fact we dont really like to use it... Yes they do try to bolster their numbers in order to sell more subscriptions to Internal Recruitment Teams and Agencies... Mind you alot of the BIG recruitment companies also have the ability to pay SEEK more per advert than the smaller companies can afford and hence keep re-advertizing roles and paying extra to have them on page one... Also alot of the times the numbers of actual live jobs are incorrect, as larger companies these days have agency panels and give the role out to 5 agencies at a time, hence several people looking for the same resources at the same time...
SEEK do not allow, agencies to advertise their services, infact we were kicked off SEEK for doing exactly that.. We wanted to advertise our services not a particular role, as we tend to find roles for candidates rather than fill open vacacies for corporates.. SEEK have become another Australian monopoly and are now more intersted in money grabbing..
Most of the bigger companies like Fujitsu, IBM EDS etc now have thier own recruitment teams internally, so my advise is, dont bother with seek for these types of roles, go directly to the company for your best chance at getting a role at these firms.. if it is a larger environment you are looking for..
My advise would be to find one or two agents (and I dont mean agencies themselves, but someone inside it you like) that recruit exclusively in your technical area.. usually these are smaller agencies, and go directly to the larger companies yourself.. this way you cover the market and get someone that can give you the right advise.. the big international recruitment agencies have agreements in place with most of the big firms such as EDS Fujitsu etc, and will tell you your chances are just as good going through them, but the truth is they are not..and generally speaking ther person interviewing you will have little idea of the difference between and Systems and Networking Engineer for instance.... the company will always favor a direct applicant...how do i know this.. I was the Victorian Manager for one of Australia biggest IT Recruiters, but left the industry for a while as I did not feel comfortable with the practices in the larger recruitment firms.. I am not giving the advise to big up my company, so wont mention our name, just happy to give advise to IT Job seekers that is accurate.... |
