Nonstop rally
Objective
This way of drilling keeps stamina training interesting because players are hitting a tennis ball at the same time.
Description
This drill allows players to train on court for superior court stamina and at the same time practice tennis by working on consistency, direction, and control.
Execution
Player A and B rally crosscourt to each other trying to hit a specific target (X) placed in the corner where the doubles alley and baseline meet. After each shots, players return to the center (T), hitting ground strokes on the run. They perform this drill for five minutes, change sides of the court, and repeat. If they can maintain a continuous rally and push hard to return to the center (T) after each shot, they will find this top conditioning drill and lots of fun as well.
Variation
Players can hit down-the-line forehands and backhands, or any combination of shots, such as two forehands crosscourt then one backhand crosscourt.
Tip
Tennis players need to be in top physical condition to keep the progression process flowing smoothly. Conditioning drills combined with hitting balls creates a "light at the end of the tunnel" effect for many players who hate just drilling or working out to stay in tennis shape. |
