Funny Game is not a horror film and its not scary, it is really juvenile.
Mirrors is really stupid, dont watch this one. The Grudge franchise will give you much better value for your time.
Match Point is good (can be viewed as soft porn) but its not really a scary film.
Paranormal activity is another one of those cheap production films trying to provide juvenile horror but make maximum money. If you enjoyed this one, then you will surely like Blare Witch Project. These films are a disgrace as they lack real substance of horror through the film and relies heavily on your mind to imagine horror elements.
What i consider to be a good horror film is something that could really happen in reality and in the mean time showing enough gruesome scenes in the film to shock immediately.
I recommend:
The Crazies (2010)
If you like Thriller/Horror mix, definitely watch Saw (2004). This is the the first film in the Saw franchise and most definitely the best. It will beat Funny Game hands down, make the director of Mirrors think again before making such a stupid film and set a golden standard for low budget film making for horror films. Paranormal Activity and Blare Witch Project will look like a rip off only being produced to rob your money compared to it.
Following are films that I think have real potential to be a good horror film (both films actually talk about environmental issues, what a rarety), but failed to achieve that:
The Thaw (2009)
The Happening (2008)
If you like parody on zombie films, watch following:
Zombieland (2010)
Shaun of the Dead (2007)
Funny but not going overboard. |
