under 12 也已经在考量中了
Vaccine for under 12s likely at some point
(ABC News: Chook Brooks)
A member of Australia's expert panel on vaccines believes it's very likely children under 12 will end up receiving a COVID vaccine at some point in the future.
Last week the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisations (ATAGI) recommended that 12 to 15-year-olds be added to the national rollout, but children under 12 remain ineligible for a jab.
Professor Katie Flanagan from ATAGI says both Pfizer and Moderna are conducting trials that could lead to a COVID vaccine specifically for younger children.
“[They’re] looking at different doses of vaccine because it's possible they won't need the adult dose of those vaccines for that age group so different doses are being analysed at the moment,” she said.
Professor Flanagan also conceded that ATAGI’s changing advice on the AstraZeneca, now called Vaxzevria, vaccine played a role in hesitancy toward it.
“I am sure it has played a role but unfortunately this was a necessary change that we had to do and it is really a matter of adapting to this emerging data,” she said.
“We had to change our advice on a couple of occasions around the AstraZeneca vaccine as new safety signals emerged and, unfortunately, we realised that is going to lead to some loss of confidence among the general population and I completely understand that but we had to follow the scientific evidence.
“What we did say all along was that, if the epidemiology changes, if you have a much higher rate of COVID circulating, then the benefits of AstraZeneca outweigh the risks across all age groups.” |
