Fatal fall from Bondi rocks

An elderly man has been found dead in water off North Bondi this morning.
Ambulance crews were called to Military Road about 7.30am with reports a man in his seventies had gone over a cliff and fallen into water, and ambulance spokeswoman said.
The 76-year-old man's body was rerieved from the water, but he could not be revived, she said.
"He may not have necessarily drowned. He may have hit his head on the rocks, he may have had a heart attack ... there could be a multitude of reasons as to why he's dead,'' she said.
Witnesses said they saw a man fishing from the rocks early on Monday morning, but it was unclear whether it was the same man.
A police spokesman could not elaborate on the circumstances that led to the man's death, but said it did not appear to be a suspicious.
Police helicopters involved in the rescue landed at the Bondi Golf Club, a staff member said.
There were reports the dead man was a fisherman. |
