The $368-million re-development of Gosford Hospital on the NSW Central Coast has moved a step closer, with plans now on public exhibition.
The much-needed hospital upgrade, including a new Health and Wellbeing Precinct, is expected to be complete in 2019.
The proposal includes construction of an 11-storey hospital wing to house a new emergency department, intensive care unit, operating theatres and maternity services.
The wellbeing precinct is set to feature two new multi-storey buildings above a seven-level car park with about 800 spaces.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald said the re-development will cater for patient demand well into the future.
"The capacity is designed I think the year was about 2030 again acknowledging that the Central Coast is one of the fastest growing regions."
Mr MacDonald has defended the State Government's decision to delay the re-development of Wyong Hospital.
In June, the Opposition criticised the government for making no mention of the Wyong hospital upgrade in the budget.
But Scot MacDonald said a deliberate decision has been made to stagger the two projects.
"The Gosford Hospital redevelopment is a very, very big project, one of the largest in the state," he said.
"One of the things we really must avoid is not trying to do too much at once to put patients' health at risk.
"We can't do the Wyong hospital the same time as Gosford so it will be a staggered process."
Public submissions on the Gosford Hospital re-development plans will be open until 11 September. |
