Golden days for IT support has been long gone, less and less support roles needed as SME moving to cloud, managing of their IT systems are outsourced to MSPs.
And large enterprise, outsourcing has been the normal practise for long time as well. If you ever worked for a company listed Top 100 of ASX, you must know of TCS, Infoyss, Wipro, just name a few.....
As I am subscriber of Seek newsletter, weekly new jobs listed relate to infrastructure/systems/network engineers are around 100~150 at the moment, compare to couple hundreds years back.
As a veteran myself, discussion with workmate always end at what will be next in 5 years, a big question mark.
Only few choice left IMHO:
a. Expand skillset, move to architect or management roles which is in higher demand
b. Grasp some frontline technologies to increase competibilities
c. forget about IT and change to another career path |
