Just bought overseas visitor health insurance from Australian Unity for my dad’s 600 applications. $1119.20 up front payment for a year. Around $200 cheaper than Medibank. But Australian Unity doesn’t have physical shops like Medibank has. You can buy online or through the phone.
I bought through the phone and asked a few questions I concerned. But it has same price while you quote on their website.
1. you can definitely cancel the policy after parents leave if parents just stay for a few months not the whole year. Less than $50 cancellation fee.
2. it covers bulk billing GPs. Don’t need to pay anything when parents need to see GP. Definitely cover other things that health insurance covers. But I think parents perhaps only need to see GP.
3. Insurance will start after visitor arrives in Australia. Within the first 14 days of arriving in Australia, you must provide Australian Unity with specific information from your passport.
-full name and date of birth
- 'Date of arrival' stamp
