maybe I'm not exactly at position to make comment since I was the one who asked everyone who can look after Luffy during the day 3 weeks ago. However, Luffy doesn't bark at all when he is alone at home for more than 12 hours.
In terms of doing that, we have spent quiet bit time to do research and we found following tips which may contribute on this matter.
1. Lots and lots of exercise
Luffy is a BC. so 2 hours training everyday is necessary to exhaust his energy. (Now with broken toe, we are looking for new way to exhaust his energy, any ideas?).
I got up at 6:20am everyday and training him, make him run till his tongue is out for 1.5 inches length. By then, we know he is tired.
2. Feed good stuff when you leave.
As what other people suggest above, do not say good bye to your dog. It's not helping. Dog will get upset and whining and barking later on. So before you leave, make sure you don't feed him anything and make him hungry. but you can present his food in his bowl but not allow him to touch.
Right before you leave, take your dog to back yard and present his food and sneak out quietly and leave.
3. Indoor or outdoor need to be open
All dogs have strong sense of territory. If your dog is allowed to freely go indoor and outdoor, you need to open those areas for him to access. Otherwise, he would feel he is locked outside!
yes, there is huge risk that ur dog may chew ur stuff and that's the price to pay from barking.
Luffy so far only chewed one of fluffy cushion and that's it. We left all other cushions and shoes in the shoe rack, sofar, he hasn't touched for 2 weeks.
4. Stop playing with your dog too often
A barking dog normally is also a lonely dog too. A dog doesn't like to play toys but only with humans. You need to let your dog learn to play with toys rather than you. so play with dog at fix time only and try to ignore it if he wants to play with you in other time.
Buy more interesting toys (like kong wobble) to keep him interested.
5. Absolutely authority
Dog needs leadership or he will become a leader by himself. If your dog doesn't listen to you, you need to make him listening. No excuse. Not obey, teach him a lesson by overpower him. Dog will challenge you time by time, but you need to let dog obey as a must. Again, DO NOT BEAT the dog, but overpower him so you can just look at him and he will low his head and flat his ears.
By then, you know you are the leader.
