If you have received a letter from ATO indicating that your income tax return assessment has been postponed, you then might be in trouble.
According to latest ATO media release 2012/43 on 19th Sep, it has already stopped 58,000 income tax returns containing suspected over claimed or fraudulent refunds.
"We are very reasonable with people who have made an honest mistake - we appreciate that can happen to anyone. However, people who deliberately attempt to defraud the tax system can face heavy fines and risk having a criminal conviction recorded." said by Tax Commissioner Mr Michael D'Ascenzo.
