The NES provides both parents with the right to separate periods of up to 12 months unpaid parental leave. Alternatively one parent will have the right to request an additonal 12 months of leave, which employers will only able to refuse on reasonable business grounds.
Famale employees may commence unpaid parental leave up to six weeks before the expected date of birth of the child and must not start later than the birth of the child.
Special maternity leave can be taken by a famale employee for a preganancy related illness, or to recover from a miscarriage that occurs up 28 weeks before the expected date of birth.
For PPL payment, an employee lodges a claim with the Family Assistance Office up to 3 months before the expected date of the birth. you only receive the payment after the date of the birth
If you want to take leave before the the birth, you can take as sick leave as long as you get the doctor certificate |
