百年沉船在悉尼Maroubra海滩浮出水面

一艘百年沉船残骸在离悉尼东区Maroubra海滩数米远的地方出现在沙下。

过去两个月的强劲海浪移动了海滩北端的沙子，暴露出Hereward号的残骸。

这艘船1898年5月5日在沿着新州海岸航行时被强风撕裂船帆，吹离航道，在沙滩搁浅。



幸运的是这艘1513吨的全帆装铁制帆船避开了两处礁石，船上25名船员得以安全上岸。

船无法再度浮起，当年晚些时候被海浪一截为二。Randwick市政厅担心冲浪者的安全，同海军潜水员一起在50和60年代对沉船残骸实施爆破。



新州遗产局的高级海事考古学家Brad Duncan说这是这艘船10多年来最被暴露的一次。

他说：“实际上还有很大一部分残留，船体部分相当大。”

Duncan博士说船上的大炮于2013年也就是船上次完全暴露时被发现，大炮现在放在附近的Maroubra海狮俱乐部。

救生主管Paul Moffatt说几个月前的大浪把北端的很多沙子吹走。

他说这艘船一般每四年会暴露部分，但是这次暴露了很大部分。

The Ex-HMAS Adelaide Dive Site

What it is: The Ex-HMAS Adelaide is a former Australian naval warship (an Oliver Perry-class guided-missile frigate) that was purposely scuttled (sunk) in 2011 to create an artificial reef.

Location: It lies off Avoca Beach, just south of Terrigal, in about 32-35 meters of water. It's a very short boat ride from Terrigal Haven.

The "Pre-Warship" Part: While it was a former warship, it wasn't a "pre-war" wreck in the historical sense (like WWI or WWII era). However, Terrigal does have other historical wrecks like the SS Galava (sank in 1927) nearby, which is a much deeper dive (50+ meters) and is an older coastal steamer, not a warship. The Adelaide is the main attraction for warship diving.
