Kids at the Con
The Kids at the Con program is designed to help children between the ages of 3 and 10 engage with the exciting world of music. Structured classes are presented in a challenging but non-competitive environment which encourages the development of artistic expression and creativity.
Based on both the Orff-Schulwerk approach and the Kodaly method, students will be introduced to music using singing, imitation, movement, playing tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments, improvisation, story-telling and guided listening activities.
Students in the Red and Orange classes will learn basic musical concepts such as pitch and rhythm, helping them prepare for formal musical tuition. Older students in the Yellow, Green and Blue classes, who may already be learning an instrument, will be able to consolidate and build on their instrumental learning.
Students enrol for 7 weeks (a term) of teaching and each level is completed in approximately 28 weeks but is dependant on the childs progress.Generally the most appropriate class for a new student will be based on the child’s age, their ability to concentrate, and their previous musical experience. A child with no previous musical experience should commence in the class where their age is at the lower end of the range listed for that class.

Red 3 to 4 years
Orange 4 to 5 years
Yellow 5 to 6 years
Green 6 to 7 years
Blue 7 to 10 years

The class teachers will make recommendations at the end of every second term as to whether a child should stay in that class or move to a new class. This recommendation is based on the students’ progress in the class.
Teaching takes place in the Conservatorium’s historical Macquarie Street buildings on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

In 2014 the fees for the Con for Kids program are:
Red and Orange class (45 minutes ) $245.00 (incl GST) per term (7 weeks)
Yellow, Green and Blue class (60 minutes) $295.00 (incl GST) per term (7 weeks) |
