Not quite sure if this stays true with LTE by saying "and to go higher you need more antennas insi ...
Agree with you, just add a few things. You know LTE is MIMO like wireless N/AC standard, to get increase speed vendor basically just throw in more antennas setup, current LTE phones maybe only have a 1×1 setup with god knows how much bandwidth support, not to mention if carrier limit how much bandwidth you have access to. FYI, top LTE speed of 300m require 4×4 setup and 20mhz bandwidth, you will probably only see that in a 4g modem, tablet should get at least 2×2 setup.
Anyway, LTE will run into congestion like 3G because it is still a wireless tech that have access to very limited spectrum. While LTE can 'kick' off users quicker, there is only so many users a tower can handle, current 3g speed is actually good enough for most needs. It is when during peak time that everyone try to do quick FB, twitter that the network get melt down. The actual load isn't that high, but it is the concurrent requests that the tower can't handle. Prime example is Melbourne's 3g network, it is been unusable for over a yr, started when Telstra priced aggressively for more users.
The current 4g network will experience slow down in 1-2 years time when iOS users all move to LTE version, congestion probably kick in at 2-3 years time when other LTE devices get traction. However there is an escape, by that time the 700mhz network should be up and running, so as long as you stay top of the curve you can avoid the congestion. |
