Mary Meeker, a partner in the firm KPCB, gave a little preview to her usual annual Internet Trends report at an event last night in San Francisco, and thankfully Techcrunch were there to grab some shots and let us know what she said.
The highlight of the of the presentation was the finding that Android adoption is now increasing 6 times faster than iPhone adoption, up from 4 times faster last year.
This increased growth now means that Androids starting selling faster than Windows machines back in Q1, 2012, making Android now the largest selling internet-capable operating system.
Mary Meeker also pointed out that there is still plenty of growth potential in smartphones. There will be an estimated 1 billion smartphone subscriptions by the end of the year, compared to the estimated 5 billion non-smartphone subscriptions.
Although this certainly includes cases where people have both a smartphone and a non-smartphone, there certainly exists plenty of people who are yet to adopt a smartphone. This has led to her predicting continued growth in smartphone and tablet adoption, such that by the end of Q2, 2013, the global install base of smartphone and tablet sales will exceed that of PCs.
