With tax return, normally you can choose either of following two methods to work out profit made by share trading:
1) Capital Gains/Losses (Capital losses must be carried forward to offset future capital gains if you don't have capital gains for current year, capital losses only can offset capital gains. Capital losses can not offset with ordinary income, such as salary, interest income, net rental income etc)
Or
2) Share Trading Method (If you had more than 50 shares and normally bought and sold less than a year) - Share trading losses can offset with salary, interest income & net rental income etc, providing you must fulfill one of four tests.
