Teach Next is a $15.9 million program giving highly skilled and experienced professionals the chance for a career change into the teaching profession. Through Teach Next, participants will achieve a teaching qualification while earning a salary and working in Australian schools.

Over a two year period, participants will complete an accredited Postgraduate Diploma of Teaching while working in schools. Training will involve a number of intensive residentials, together with an online education component. During their school placement, participants will be supported by a trained mentor and other experienced teachers.

Teach Next plays an important role in addressing areas of teacher shortages in regional and hard-to-staff schools and in reducing the number of teachers currently teaching outside their subject areas. Career change teachers from other backgrounds such as mathematics and science can also help improve the quality of teaching at participating schools by combining theory with real life, on the job experience.

Applications are now open for Intake 2 of the program in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

Applications for placements in other jurisdictions close Friday 17th August 2012.
Teach Next Intake 2

Applications for Intake 2 in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory are now open. In particular we are looking for professionals with qualifications in:

Physics (NSW, VIC, ACT)
Chemistry (NSW, VIC, ACT)
General Science (NSW, VIC, ACT)
Mathematics (NSW, VIC)
Technology (VIC, ACT)
Languages Other Than English- LOTE (VIC, ACT)
Design and Technology (SA)
Information Technology (VIC)
Music (VIC)

Over the two year period, successful applicants will attend intensive training courses and take on teaching responsibilities at a participating school, on a reduced teaching load of 0.8 Full Time Equivalent. At the same time, successful applicants will continue their studies and on completion of the program, will receive a Postgraduate Diploma of Teaching.
