I've been to 2 government interviews and got a 12-month intern. I am accounting major as well and Here is my 5 cents:
1. As you are a tertiary qualified accountant, you need to read their annual financial reports. Trust me you can learn a lot! You need to show that you are enthusastic about the position and you've already learnt a lot! And you are willing to learn more in your traineeship!
2. You need to show you are the right applicant for the position. Feel free to brag about yourself but bear in mind to give solid examples to back up your statements.
3. No need to panic about your english. Best thing about government job interview is no fear for discrimination. I'll give you my own story: My english is reasonably good but nothing compared to local applicants, and I was applying for an internship demanding a high standard on english communication skills. Funny thing is the interviewer even pointed out to me that some of my writting habits shown through my cover letter need to be knocked out (which fortunately wasn't taken into consideration). In the end I got the job. I did show a lot of enthusiasm about the job, do a lot of research, but didn't expect anything in return cauze I though it was way out of my reach.
So my overall suggestion is don't expect too much (as it will come as too huge a strike if you fail), but do put in effort and passion. |
