About the Company and Team
This multinational company is well known, considered progressive in their products and associated with many iconic Australian businesses. They are currently looking for a Senior SQL Server Engineer to join their infrastructure team who prides themselves on their collaborative, team focus working environment.

About the role.
The Senior SQL Server Engineer will work closely with another Database Engineer in a team of thirteen. They are looking for a Senior Engineer who can drive initiatives, best practices, has a passion for all things SQL as well as having a positive approach to their work and any challenges. In return, this role will give you the opportunity to have real input into how things are designed and built in the SQL environment and the successful applicant will be given a high level of responsibility whilst being supported by the Infrastructure Manager. In this role you will be responsible for the following:

• Build and maintain SQL database design and data model.
• Identify and resolve database system storage requirements.
• Maintain data standards following industry best practice.
• Ensure timely implementation of SQL updates and patches.
• Review scripts and store procedures
• Develop and maintain SQL reports in line with business requirements.
• Develop and maintain SQL reporting and analysis services.
• Administer databases and run regular maintenance on SQL server databases to keep availability and consistency of data ensuring optimal performance is achieved.
• Proactively monitor all SQL databases  
• Facilitate the successful execution of business continuity.
• Review monthly SQL security, access and roles.
• Provide 3rd level support across infrastructure when required.
• Provide after hours and weekend support as per roster.
• Resolve database performance, capacity/replication, distributed data issues.

Skills required
• 5+ years DBA experience in a medium to large organisation.
• Extensive experience with MS-SQL server 2000-2008
• SQL backup technologies, best practices and concepts.
• SQL Cluster and Data Warehouse.
• SQL Reporting Services/SQL Analysis Services/ SQL Integration Services.
• SQL Data Mining/SQL Compression/SQL Business Intelligence (ETL).

不同公司差别挺大的，打个电话问问中介好了

It depends.

Being  an DB developer is unnecessary leads to DBA role in term of career path especially in big organization. They have dedicated DBA team which essentially separate team from DEV teams that DB developers most likely belong to. But they may work very closely for sure.

However, in smaller companies, the boundary is not clearly  defined. The responsibilities for DBA may be covered by DEV team—they ware multiple hats, thus, more stressful but more fun  and you have bigger picture of whole SDLC.

It’s always good to expose yourself to DB stuff in preparation of some potential opportunities to come.  Every now and then, some ppl complain about being thrown into that role and struggle to learn how to “swim”.

Please bear in mind, being an DBA with smaller skill sets is much harder to launch a desired job comparing with other developers in the market now, less positions and more competitors. Salary wise, I found it not as good as it used to be.
