Dear Parent/Caregiver
Some parents have expressed concern for the safety of their children sitting the Selective High School Placement Test during the current COVID-19 situation.
While we normally say it is better to attempt the test than to miss it, of course in light of the current situation that advice relates only to those cases where students are only slightly unwell with symptoms that do not include cold-like symptoms.
I would like to reassure parents that the department's advice is as follows:
7 Students who were originally allocated to Epping Boys High School and Willoughby Girls High School have been moved to other test centres even though both of those schools are expected to be back in full operation by 12 March.
7 Students who have returned from the following countries are expected to self-isolate for 14 days from their return and are not expected to come to the test centres if they have not been isolated for the full 14 days:
mainland China - since 1 February
Iran - since 1 March
the Republic of Korea (South Korea) - since 5 March
7 Students who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve.
7 Close contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded for 14 days since last contact with the confirmed case. (Close contacts are defined as having been very near the person with a known COVID-19 infection for 15 minutes or in the same room for 2 hours.)
I have asked the test centre schools to implement measures to disinfect the test room before students arrive.
Any student who misses the test because of COVID 19 issues will be considered on other evidence of academic merit when parents complete an illness/misadventure request.

Yours sincerely
