给找工的TX的几点建议

表妹(胖乎乎的小可爱，我叫她小冬瓜)2个月前来澳洲，今天去interview - her very first job interview in Australia.  She got the job offer!

小冬瓜一来澳洲就跟我说，她要找part-time工作，以减轻父母的压力，同时也为自己积累local experience

(I am very slow in typing Chinese characters, so I will write in English.)

Some of her background:
Just graduated from University in China majoring in HR Management
Only 3 months intern experience in China
IELTS - 6.5
Came here to study Master in Professional Accounting
No accounting work experience whatsoever in China or here

I spent about 10 hours coaching her about job seeking skills.  She is very keen to learn.  She spent a lot of time to review and re-inforce what she learnt.

Last week I found out that a friend of mine is looking for an Accounts Clerk.  Thinking 小冬瓜 has honed up her interview skills, I encouraged her to apply for this job - her very first job application in Australia.

She spent numerous hours preparing for the interview.  After the interview, my friend called me:"Very impressive!  She doesn't even have one day's local experience.  But she is so knowledgable on basic accounting practice and she is so confident!  I will send her the offer letter tomorrow."

第一份工，attitude和passion很重要啊，还有LZ的coaching和引荐也是不可缺少的，不是每个TZ都有被人引荐的机会。

To sum up her success, here are some tips which will be useful no matter what area of job you are looking for.

Be confident. 不要海投简历, unless you want to defeat yourself.  Do not send out a job application unless you are very confident.

Hone up your interview skills.  Again be confident, confident, confident.

Practice interview questions.  Get someone to help you to practice.

Do your homework - research, research and research on the company and the job description.

Networking! - tell all your friends / relatives that you are looking for a job and they might be able to refer you to a job.

Off you go for an interview.  Again be confident.  Demonstrate your confidence, your interest on the job and your skills & capabilities.

Getting your dreamed job is not that difficult.

Referral is important.  However, interview skills including attitude and passion are much more important.  My friend told me that he would offer my cousin the position even if she was not my relative.

It's how you perform during the interview that makes the impression, not whose friend/relative you are.

I also got referrals from my friends when I recruited my staff, but I only make my decision based on candidate's overall skills.  Afterall, I am looking for capable staff who can work, not looking for some friends to chat at work

只能说机会是给有准备的人，但不代表所有有准备的人都有机会。这个东西就像皇帝的后宫一样，是靠临幸的。需要一点运气，一点实力，和一点平时的做人。
天时，地利，人合，缺一不可。你表妹只是在机会来临时紧紧抓住了机会从而脱颖而出。但足迹上很多找工的会计也都很有实力的。但他们欠缺可能就是临门一脚。
而且70%的job不是public advertised这个数据也不是没有根据的。

澳洲92%的工作是通过agent找到的。

35%里的92%？
毕竟澳洲还有很多工作是不通过中介的。看到第23个slide就知道agent其实作业也没他们所说的那么大。

By the way, my friend did advertise the position on Seek and he received nearly 500 applications and numerous phone calls from the recruitment agents.

Yes, those who got the job are a bit lucky but they will not be that lucky if they do not have the good skills (especially good interview skills).

For those who are still looking for a job -  Be confident.  Well prepare yourself, and the "luck" will come to you in the not too far future.
