The employment market for straight lawyers in Australia became super-saturated 10 years ago. A law degree is now more useful as a generalist degree, as it teaches you analytical and critical thinking skills. But as a career-path degree, it's not particularly impressive.
The best/highest earning lawyers are either high profile barristers (but I don't know any Asian QCs or SCs) or partners in top-tier law firms, both of which are dominated by white Australians. Unless you move overseas to work in the Hong Kong, where you can use your Chinese skills to your advantage, it's extremely hard to climb that corporate ladder. |
