Superannuation funds will return their worst losses in two decades this financial year with an estimated

$ 50 billion wiped off their assets as a result of stockmarket volatility.

Balanced funds have suffered a 5.2per cent decline so far this financial year,SupperRaatings research shows.

But analysts say the fall is negligible compared with the 50 per cent gain produced by funds since 2003.
