IVF Treatment Costs
How much does IVF cost?
There are three main types of costs for your fertility treatment:
•Initial Fertility Specialist consultation cost and any pre-treatment tests
•IVF/ICSI Cycle and day surgery costs
•Advanced science costs
1. Pre-treatment expenses
Your first appointment and initial tests
During your first appointment, your specialist will assess your medical history and determine an appropriate treatment plan. Further investigations, such as blood tests, semen analysis or ultrasound tests, may be required.
You will need a referral from your GP or a specialist gynaecologist/obstetrician to be eligible for Medicare rebates for your specialist appointments. It is important that your referral lists both you and your partner’s name to enable you to claim the maximum benefit available to you.
Your first appointment has an average fee of $200, and you will receive $71.40 back from Medicare. If you have already reached your Medicare Safety Net Threshold, this rebate will be higher.
2. IVF treatment cycle costs
Affordable and Accessible
Your IVF or ICSI cycle payment is eligible for Medicare rebates, and includes:
•Blood tests
•Pathology
•Ultrasounds
•Standard medications
•Counselling during and immediately post cycle
•Fertility specialist consultations
•Specialist nursing care and support
For IVF and ICSI treatment cycles, your Fertility Specialist may need to prescribe some medications that are not covered by Medicare. You are able to collect these from us at a lower cost than an external pharmacy, and we recommend you allow up to $280 extra for medications.
The majority of your day surgery fees are covered by private health insurance. This could include egg collection and embryo transfer for IVF and ICSI treatments. If you don’t have private health insurance, you can expect to pay up to $2,000 for private hospital care and an anaesthetist. There is no Medicare rebate for day surgery procedures, though some rebates exist for anaesthetist services.
The following table provides an estimate of expected out-of-pocket costs for fertility treatment at IVFAustralia. The latest vitrification freezng method is used to prepare any excess embryos following a treatment cycle for your future use. Note only a minimal $100 fee is charged for the freezing technique unlike other clinics, (however ongoing storage fees apply).

3. Advanced science costs
If your treatment involves advanced diagnostics or analysis, there are additional costs. These procedures are carried out in our own state-of-the-art laboratories:
