The DBA Group is seeking to recruit a highly skilled Database Administrator in the Sydney region. The skill set should be predominately Sybase focused, but with additional DBMS experience of Oracle and MSSQL.

The main responsibilities of this role are as follows:

    * Administration of Database servers and installations of new servers
    * Ensuring optimum performance and availability of Database systems
    * Ensuring Backups and validity of data structures
    * Controlling Security and access to Database systems
    * Ongoing upgrade and maintenance of database versioning
    * Development and Design Consulting to ISD Account Team and business users
    * DR planning and testing
    * Participation in roster for 24/7 production support and weekend scheduled works
    * Operating within Service Support and Service Delivery framework for DBA team (i.e. ITIL procedures for Change Control)

You must demonstrable extensive database administration experience. You must be comfortable working on your own initiative in a rapidly changing environment. You must be able to perform under time pressure, and be prepared to work flexible hours. Ideally, you will be qualified to degree level with proven experience in a customer support role in another investment bank.

The following characteristics would be considered essential:

    * Strong, dynamic character, capable of dealing effectively with business users and colleagues
    * The ability to troubleshoot and rapidly resolve production DBMS issues
    * The ability to liaise with business groups and vendors about products, services and to summarise options based on benefits vs. risk vs. cost
    * The ability to offer consultancy to other teams within the region on DB based requirements
    * Being customer-focused and having excellent communication skills

Knowledge in the additional following areas is desirable:

    * Sybase ASIQ
    * Veritas Clustering products
    * Windows Reporting and Analysis Services
    * IIS and web related products
    * Solaris Operating Systems
    * EMC SAN environments
    * ITIL fundamentals

Essential experience and knowledge

3+ years experience as a DBA using SQL Server 2000 (SP3a and/or SP4).(upgrading 2005 soon)

Relevant Microsoft certification.

Understanding of Relational Database design

·         Includes ability to Create and Maintain DB schemas using EM and DDL

·         Understanding differences between different levels of Normal Forms

Work with MS Windows (Windows Server 2003 SP1).

Understanding of Replication, Full-Text Indexing, and SQL Jobs.

Strong knowledge/skills/experience with TSQL

·         Create Ad-hoc queries for the business.

·         Excellent understanding and usage of DDL, DML, DCL, and TCL statements.

Excellent Understanding of MS SQL DB objects

o    Includes Stored Procedures, Triggers, UDF's.

Strong problem identification and resolution skills:

o    Query Optimisation.

o    Workflow bottleneck identification.

Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Familiarity with change management concepts as part of an ITIL-based service management framework.

Ability to work to deadlines.

Ability to multi-task.

Ability to work in team-environment.



Preferred but non-essential experience and knowledge         

Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.

ITIL certification.

Experience with Clustered environment.

Experience with SQL Server 2005.

Experience with Analysis services.

Programming experience with VB or VBA or C#.

Experience with Oracle 8.0.5 (or later versions).

Experience with DTS.

Experience with VLDB’s
